Every Facial Treatment, Explained: Which One Is Actually for Your Skin?

26 October 2026

The facial menu keeps getting longer, and the official US statistics don't even count several of these treatments on their own. So we went through eight in-clinic treatments, from the surface down. For each one: what it actually does, how deep it goes, what the evidence says, what it costs, and who should skip it.

Nobody paid for this. Prices were checked in October 2026 and vary by city and clinic.

The one idea that makes the menu make sense

Your skin has layers: the epidermis on top, ending in a thin sheet of dead cells, and the dermis below, where collagen lives. Surface treatments make skin look fresher for days or weeks. Treatments that reach the dermis can change texture and scars, but cost more, take longer and carry more risk.

Whatever you choose: daily sunscreen protects results, and choose by who is holding the device. Ask who will treat you, what training they have, and who you call if something goes wrong.
